Strange times

I didn’t post anything last Wednesday, or indeed last Thursday when I realised that I’d missed my usual Wednesday post. It was a strange feeling of mixed emotions.

On the one hand, I was quite disappointed in myself for breaking what I think was about a seven year run of weekly Wednesday posts, come rain or shine.

On the other hand, it felt quite liberating. Yes, I missed a post, but I still painted, the sun continued to rise and set and, as far as I’m aware, apart from my own strange sense of guilt – no one else noticed!

In fact, I was about to forego today’s post too but my daughter has encouraged me to post something and not let one slip turn into a habit.

I’m writing this while sat next to our camp fire, surrounded by pitch darkness. This our third night of six and so far, the weather has been wonderfully kind to us and we’re having an amazingly lovely time.

You know where to find me

Because we arrived on Bank Holiday Monday, when most people were departing, we’ve enjoyed a few days of being pretty much on our own. Here’s the view from our tent:

I’ll probably paint this!

I’ve decided to rest and relax as much as possible while away. As soon as I’m back, I’ll be in at the deep end with work and final preparations for the Sussex Watercolour Society Exhibition at Linklater Pavilion in Lewes, East Sussex. The exhibition opens on Friday 6th September and is on until Sunday 8th September. Space permitting, I’ll be painting in the venue on Sunday 8th.

In the picture above, I was painting a view of the River Ouse, that runs through Lewes at low tide. It will be nice to retune this year and to show the finished painting off in public for the first time!

The building in the background is the Linklater Pavilion where the exhibition is being held.

Do pop in and say hello if you happen to be in the vicinity, it would be lovely to see anyone that can make it.
