This was quite a quick quarter sheet watercolour painting. The view is from a recent walk in Stanmer Park, just outside Brighton. We’d spent most of our walk in the woods and were making our way back to the car. We couldn’t go any further on the path we were on so had to take to this lane.
We were fortunate to hit the lane just as the sun broke through the clouds casting some lovely late afternoon long shadows.

I painted this largely as a means of just trying to ‘keep my brushes moving’ as I’m struggling to dedicate as much time to my painting as I would like.
My expectations then were quite low, so I was pleasantly surprised with how this turned out. It’s definitely an evocative reminder of our afternoon walk in Stanmer Park.
